Boy who set himself afire dies

HYDERABAD July 24. A 10-year-old boy, Suman, who set himself afire on July 19 reportedly fearing action by elders after allegedly beating up his classmate succumbed to burns at Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday.

A sixth class student of Injapuram Government High School, Suman beat up another student, Laxman, following a dispute during lunch hour, the Vanasthalipuram police said. Laxman suffered injuries and developed complications. On seeing this, Suman ran into his house and set himself ablaze.

Maid robbed

A woman, Yadamma (55), was robbed of jewellery by two unidentified persons after diverting her attention. A resident of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, the victim was a domestic worker.

On Tuesday, two unidentified persons entered into a conversation with her while she was walking on road near AOC Centre. They advised her to keep the jewellery inside a bag saying chain snatchers were moving around.

After Yadamma removed her jewellery, they packed it in a paper and returned it to her. On reaching home, Yadamma opened the bag and found the jewellery missing.
