Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
"Some may not have even adequate resources for putting up the structures. In such circumstances, the Government can think of a financial assistance scheme", the national secretary, L. Ganesan, told mediapersons here today. Besides vigorously implementing the RWH programme in all government buildings, rainwater harvesting should be done at road junctions and streetcorners for effecting percolation. On the ongoing Chennai Corporation drive to remove cattle outside city limits, the BJP leader said residents who had been taking care of the animals properly should be exempted from this move. The Government should identify alternative sites for the displaced cattle. On party affairs, Mr. Ganesan said a public meeting would be held in Coimbatore in August, to coincide with the ongoing Statewide tour of the Tamil Nadu president, C.P. Radhakrishnan. The Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, would attend. To mark the completion of the tour, another meeting was proposed in Chennai and the Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, and the national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, were invited.
Rejects Opposition charge
Contending that many Opposition parties in the State treated the BJP as an ``untouchable'', Mr. Ganesan denied that his party was inching closer to the AIADMK by not participating in Opposition-organised events against the State Government. "When we are not invited, how can we participate in their programmes?" Asked why the BJP did not join Opposition walkouts in the Assembly, he said, "They did not take us into confidence, when they staged the protest. But our remaining inside the House did not mean that we supported the Government. However, when the Pattali Makkal Katchi invited us (to all-party meetings organised at its initiative), we attended". Mr. Ganesan challenged the DMK to show that prior to the snapping of ties at the State-level, the BJP had rejected floor coordination on any issue in the House with that party.
