According to the prosecution, the accused lured the victim to his house at around 3 p.m. and raped her. He fled before the neighbours rushed to her aid after hearing her screams. Finding Sridhar guilty of offences under Section 376 IPC, the special judge, S. Vimala, awarded him 10-year RI besides imposing a fine of Rs. 1,000. Ms. Vimala also expressed concern over the incident and said the rape would, no doubt, have left an indelible scar on the psyche of the girl. When adult-victims themselves find it difficult to reconcile themselves with such traumatic experience, in the case of young girls the agony would be much more, she said. Culprits involved in such crimes should not be shown any leniency.
