India `A' falters

London July 24. India `A' faltered badly after a third wicket century stand between S. Sriram and Rohan Gavaskar on the first day of its three-day game against Glamorgan County Cricket Club at St. Helen's in Swansea here today.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, India `A' lost skipper S.S. Das (14) and Parab (4), both being dismissed by pace bowler Harrison. Sriram (62, 6x4s) and Rohan (61, 1x6, 8x4s) then put on 116 before the latter was dismissed. There was a mini collapse after this with Vijay Bharadwaj (1), Badani (0) and Sriram falling in quick succession to former England off-break bowler Croft, now captaining the county.

As rain stopped play, tea was taken with India `A' on 149 for six. After resumption, no further play was possible due to a heavy downpour and play was abandoned for the day.

The scores:

India `A' — 1st innings: 149 for six in 52.1 overs (S. Sriram 62, R. Gavaskar 61, R. Croft three for 45). — P. Subramanyam
