All but 2,200 to be reinstated

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai July 24. Hours after the Supreme Court order, the Tamil Nadu Government on Friday directed the department heads and District Collectors to reinstate all the dismissed employees, barring the 2,200 who face criminal proceedings.

The Chief Secretary, Lakshmi Pranesh, who returned from Delhi after the court proceedings, held a meeting of all department Secretaries late in the evening and instructed them to issue reinstatement orders to the sacked employees, after getting an apology from them for having participated in the strike and an undertaking that they would not resort to any strike in future.

A model format of the apology letter and undertaking has been sent to the "appointing officers." The officials have been told that those who were jailed and against whom first information reports had been lodged should not be reinstated.
