The State Nandi TV Film Awards-2002 were announced by the Awards Selection Committee chairman, Garimella Ramamurthy, in the presence of the Home and Cinematography Minister, T. Devender Goud, here on Thursday. Ashok Rao of `Seetha Maalakshmi', Sithara of `Mouna Raagaalu' won the best leading actor and actress awards respectively. The Minister said that the television industry is growing rapidly and the awards would inspire one to produce quality films, serials reflecting the culture and traditions of the land with high technical value and encourage talented artistes. He said the Government had kept its word to clear the backlog and announce the Nandi awards regularly every year. The awards for Telugu feature films and theatre would also be announced in October, he added. He complimented the awards committee comprising prominent persons of TV and other fields, for their keen interest in completing the marathon exercise for selecting the best Telugu TV serials and films produced and telecast during the year 2002. The Minister said that guidelines had been given to the committee not to encourage serials promoting superstitions and also those that hurt the feelings of women. Mr.Ramamurthy said that no entries were received under the telefilms category. The committee received 46 entries under different categories. The screening of the entries had commenced on June 21 and concluded on July 24 and the judgement of the committee had been unanimous. The following is the list of awards: Second best (T.V.Regular serial): Faction, Faction; Second best (Mega Serial): Endamaavulu; Second Best (Daily Serial): Aadadi; Best TV Children Film: Paapam Pasivallu; Best TV Documentary film: Maa Vullo Baala Karmikulu Leru, Second best: Vathapi Ganaptahim Bhaje; Socially relevant film: Rendoolla Kadha. Individual Awards: Best director: B.Pruthvi Varma of Seetha Maalakshmi, Best supporting actor: Srinu of Mouna Raagaalu; Best Supporting Actress: Neeraja of Vidhi; Best Comedian: Brinda of Vidhi; Best Villain: Prabhakar of Seetha Maalakshmi; Best Child Artiste: Manoj Sainath of Naaga Baala; Best first film of a director: B.Pruthvi Varma; Best Screenplay Writer: Bhjim; Best Story Writer: Suman; Best Dialogue Writer: Mullapudi Shesh Kumar; Lyric Writer: K.Krishna Mohan; Cinematographer: U.V.Chetan; Music Director: Uday Kumar for Seetha Maalakshmi; Male playback singer: Vinod Babu; Female playback singer: Kousalya. The committee also announced special jury awards to TV documentary film Maa Punya Kshetraalu. The awards would be presented in September.
