HC adjourns plea against hartal

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI July 24. A Full Bench of the Kerala High Court today adjourned to August 7 for further hearing a batch of writ petitions seeking to declare unconstitutional the holding of hartals in the State.

The Bench comprising the Chief Justice, Jawahar Lal Gupta, Justice J. B. Koshy and Justice A.K. Basheer, meanwhile, directed counsel for the petitioners to bring to the notice of the court a specific instance of the loss sustained by a person on account of the violence during the recent hartals in the State. The court orally asked counsel for the petitioners to implead such persons in the petition so that the court could consider ordering compensation for the loss suffered by the individual as a test case.
