This Day That Age
President Naguib said in Cairo's Liberation Square on the 23rd, "The presence of British forces on Egyptian soil is a shame on 22 million Egyptians who shall never forfeit any of their national rights." The meeting celebrated Liberation Day marking the first anniversary of the bloodless army coup which ended the rule of King Farouk in 1952. President Naguib said, "Egypt does not await help from any other country. But it still expects the indignation of the nations of the free world against the attacks by British forces. Any material might is trifling, compared with the rights of the nation for which we are prepared to sacrifice our lives. Our revolutionary movement was, and still is, after the big enemy. The Egyptian people are convinced more than ever that their dignity, and occupation by a usurper, cannot go together," Describing Egyptian unity, he asserted. "The synagogue, the church, and the mosque, are links in a tight chain in the struggle of the Egyptian nation. The revolution in our country also expresses the sentiment of sister Arab countries that our unified objective is a crucial blow to the imperialist who lives on our territory. My Government has dealt a deadly blow to imperialism in the Sudan. We reaffirm Egyptian feelings towards Sudanese self-determination. The revolution's main achievement, agrarian reform, has restored the people's rights and cleaned national life of bribery and egotism.
