PSC chief blames Govt. for delay in appointments

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM July 15. The chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Gangadhara Kurup, today squarely blamed the State Government policy for the failure of those who had made it to the PSC rank lists to earn appointments.

Addressing a "Meet-the-Press" programme organised by the Kollam Press Club, he said that this in spite of the fact that during the past two-and-a-half years, the PSC had published 1,170 ranklists involving 1.5 lakh rank holders selected from 74 lakh applications.

Mr. Kurup said that the PSC had advised the Government to consider regular annual recruitment for at least 30 specific posts.

He said that the PSC had embarked upon an arrears clearance drive vis-a-vis the applications and that a system was being evolved to publish the ranklist within a year from the last date for receiving the respective applications. As per the progress made in this regard, the system would be strictly implemented from next year.

He said the PSC also intended to make all procedures of the organisation more transparent. This was mainly to clear the prevailing misconceptions against the PSC. As part of the transparency procedure, the mark lists of all the candidates attending the written examination of the PSC would be published along with the publication of the ranklist.

A grievance cell for the benefit of the public had started functioning at the PSC office from July 1.

The PSC also intended to organise district-based special sittings in which two PSC members and senior officers would attend.

The sittings would provide the public with an opportunity to have a face-to-face with the PSC top brass, he said.
