Finding some such libraries along the Jaipur-Bharatpur road not in order during a sudden personal inspection by the Chief Minister, action was initiated after a preliminary enquiry was held against those found responsible for their improper manning. The Mahatma Gandhi Public Libraries were launched in 4,173 gram panchayats in 19 districts simultaneously on July 10. The Chief Minister had presided over the main function in this connection at Baniana village in Dausa district. In the neighbouring Bharatpur district, 300 such libraries were opened on the same day. The libraries in Bharatpur were found lacking by Mr.Gehlot last Sunday when he was returning after attending a Congress workers' meeting in the district headquarters town. Of the three libraries Mr.Gehlot chose for sudden inspection, the one at Helena was found to be closed during the working hours. Another, at Chokarwada, was open but the books were missing. He found only the library at Paharsar in good order.
