H.B.Madana Gowda, KSP district unit President, told presspersons here today that efforts were on to give a new lease of life to Gorur village where the late writer lived and wrote. It had also been decided to set up endowment funds in the name of the noted writers, S.L. Byrappa, Aa.Na. Krishnaraya, S.V. Ranganna, and Kru.Na.Murthy, who hailed from the district. A symposium on women's literature in association with the Kannada Sahitya Academy and a book fair in association with the Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara would be organised in November. The district unit of the KSP, which organised a convention of the presidents of the district units in Shravanabelagola last year, had decided to hold a convention of the presidents of taluk units, he said. Mr. Gowda said a favourable atmosphere had been created in the district by organising various literary and cultural programmes. The district unit had successfully conducted two district-level sahitya sammelans and the third one would be held in January. The Belur and Sakleshpur taluk units had come forward to organize the sammelans. Office-bearers had been appointed to the hobli units of the KSP in Channarayapatna, Arsikere, and Alur taluks. It had also been decided to hold a convention of the presidents of hobli units in November.
`Nenapina Mantapa'
The construction of a "Nenapina Mantapa" in Halmidi village of Belur taluk, where the first Kannada inscription was found, had been completed at a cost of Rs. 3 lakh. It would be inaugurated in November, Mr. Gowda said. The district unit had taken up the project on priority, he said. The district administration, which had sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for the purpose, had promised to provide a computer and necessary accessories to the school at Halmidi. Chandakala Nagesh, former vice-president of the zilla panchayat, had released Rs. 1 lakh to develop the village. The members of the taluk panchayat had also contributed Rs. 5,000 each for the purpose, Mr. Gowda said. A book written by Sreevatsa S. Vati, which has been published by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, would be released on the occasion. Mr. Gowda said it was decided to write to the Department of Primary and Secondary Education to make a visit to Halmidi mandatory for children who visited Belur and Halebid.
