The decision was taken at a committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr. Gupta following the improved power situation in the State. Mr. Gupta is here to hold a review meeting to speed up the pace of various projects in the Mysore Circle. The two-day review meeting attended by senior company officials, including the Director (Technical), Veerabhadrappa, reviewed performances of the Mandya, Mysore, and Chamarajanagar divisions as well as various sub-divisions in the Mysore Circle. Mr. Gupta said performance review of all the divisions and circles had been taken up over the past one year and an action plan proposed to tackle technical problems in Mysore Circle on a war footing. The company would also take steps to improve infrastructure and the voltage situation in Mysore. He said the company was keen to improve the overall power situation in the division and this included reducing losses, improving collection efficiency and metering, energy audit, and investing in equipment. To prevent overloading and to improve the voltage situation the company was identifying low-voltage pockets where lines and transformers got overloaded. Extra transformers and link lines would be set up on a priority basis to augment capacity, he said. Regarding the waiver of interest on irrigation pumpsets (IP sets) as announced by the Government, Mr. Gupta said Mescom had taken up a campaign to promote the scheme. This would benefit farmers who own IP sets, in various divisions of the company, he said. Besides the campaign, letters giving information on arrears, interest, and other details would be dispatched to individual IP set owners. He said Mescom was trying to reduce commercial losses in the division, and it had chalked out an action plan to calibrate meters of all high-voltage consumers on a half-yearly basis. Replacement of meters, wherever necessary, with high precision meters would be undertaken, he said. All defunct meters were being progressively replaced and, in this regard, Mescom boasted of the least incidence of "meter not recording" (1.2 per cent), which had been appreciated by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). Regarding the steps being taken to strengthen the grievances mechanism in the company, he said the company would appoint a senior officer as the regional consumer grievance redressal officer. The officer would hold consumer grievance meets every 45 days at the regional level. This step would not only help address customer complaints but also instil a sense of responsibility in the employees, he said. Meanwhile, a press release by Mescom said several works that had been undertaken under the Accelerated Power Development Reforms Project (APDRP) to strengthen the power transmission network in the district and to provide quality power to consumers was progressing at a satisfactory pace. It said the nearly 435 km. of 11 kV line had been erected and nearly 463 km. had been changed and strengthened. Fresh LT line had been laid on a 70-km. stretch. Regarding future investment in the field, it said the network would be further strengthened at a cost of Rs. 46.81 crore, and that the works would be implemented in Mysore, Nanjangud, T. Narasipura, and Hunsur.
