Mr. Sadiq, who visited the goshalas that were opened on Monday, said that there were 14 lakh head of cattle in the district. Special attention had to be paid to tackle the problem of fodder shortage. The district administration was planning to grow fodder in Babbur, Kudapura Farm, Rayapura Sericulture Farm, and Gunderi Farm. The district administration had procured 55 tonnes of fodder to be distributed through goshalas, he said. The three goshalas in Chitradurga District in the severely drought-hit areas were full. The district administration had opened goshalas in Dodda Ullarthi of Challakere taluk, Seebara of Chitradurga taluk, and Rayapura Sericulture Farm in Molakalmuru. In Dodda Ullarthi goshala, 2,500 head of cattle had been registered. Nearly 1,300 and 300 head of cattle had been registered in Rayapura and Seebara goshalas, respectively. Each head of cattle would be provided with seven kg. of fodder, and drinking water. The district administration had sufficient fodder and goshalas could be continued for a further 15 days with the existing stock, Mr. Sadiq added.
