Cong, Left plan stir

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR JULY 15. Congress and Left parties in the district have chalked out a plan for an agitation on the problems faced by the farming community. This was decided at the meetings conducted by the District Congress Committee (DCC) and the Left parties separately here today.

The Madakasira legislator, N. Raghuveera Reddy of the Congress, and M.V. Ramana, K. Ramakrishna, Y. Visveswar Reddy and C. Peddanna of the Left parties gave the details of the agitation to reporters here on Tuesday.

The Congress and Left leaders would lead the farmers to lay siege to the cooperative and commercial banks all over the district on July 19, if the problems were not solved by then. They would enforce bandh of village secretariats, schools and other offices at village-level on July 21, lay siege to MROs' offices on July 23 and stage rail bandh all over the district on July 25.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said that farmers had lost patience and were in a helpless situation. This was reflected in their protests on the problems of seed scarcity and crop insurance. He alleged that the insurance companies and the State and Central Governments had deceived the farmers by collecting the insurance premium, knowing well that they would not get any benefit in more than half of the mandals in the district as per the existing guidelines.

A. Venkatarami Reddy, district Congress president, legislators, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, B. Narayana Reddy, P. Venugopal Reddy, K. Suryapratap Reddy and Y. Sivarami Reddy, the former Minister, A. Veerappa, and other functionaries participated in the DCC meeting held earlier.
