This Day That Age
The start of the world-famous Car Festival of Lord Jagannath, Sri Balabhadra and Sri Shubhadra in Puri suffered a delay on the 13th, just as preparations to install the deities in the car were about to begin, the body of a pilgrim who seemed to have died of snake-bite was discovered in the temple premises. After purificatory rites, the deities were taken out at 4-30 p.m. and placed on the car at 5 p.m. The important function of the Raja sweeping the floors of the cars in the traditional mode could not be completed till 6 p.m. By then daylight had failed, and it was decided to commence the journey the next morning.
