By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD July 13. By confining his friend, he thought of recovering the stolen mobile phone. By a quirk of fate, he lost his childhood friend and was charged with abetting the latter to commit suicide.

Twenty-two-year-old Arvind Kumar committed suicide on Saturday by hanging himself after his friend, Santosh, forced him to own up the offence of stealing a mobile phone in the Neredmet police station area.

A mason, Arvind, of Vinobhanagar used to frequently visit the house of his close friend, Santosh of J.J. Nagar, a software engineer.

When he turned up at Santosh's residence on Saturday afternoon, the latter accused him of lifting his cellphone.

However, Vinod reportedly refused to own up the offence. In a bid to force Arvind admit to the crime, Santosh and some others allegedly confined him to a room.

Later, Santosh threatened Arvind saying he would approach the police if he failed to accept the `crime.'

Santosh's aunt grew suspicious as there was no response from Santosh for two hours. When she peeped through the window, his body was found hanging from the ceiling with a sari wrapped around the neck. The police booked a case against Santosh and others, who were absconding, under Section 306 of IPC.
