Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
A couple -- V.V.S. Sharma and Shailaja -- of NBT Nagar lost their son, Gopal, when he slipped into the sump in the house on Sunday. The boy was loitering around in the veranda and accidentally fell into the sump. In another case, the girl, Vasantha, was crushed to death on Saturday night when a driver reversed his four-wheeler without noticing the girl who was playing around in the open space of an apartment bloc. The victim's parents -- Srinivas and Venkata Laxmi -- are labourers.
Succumbs to burns
A widow, Yadamma (28), who was set afire on June 10 by her alleged paramour, Kishtaiah, succumbed to burns on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital. The Hayathnagar police registered a murder case against Kishtaiah following the death. The police said the victim, in her dying declaration, accused Kishtaiah of setting her ablaze. A native of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, Yadamma came to Hayathnagar and was living in RTC colony. She developed illegal intimacy with Kishtaiah. A year ago, she gave Rs. 35,000 loan to Kishtaiah. Even after persistent requests, the accused person failed to return the money. On June 10, he followed her when she went out to attend nature's call. He allegedly doused her in kerosene, set her afire and fled from the scene.
Mild tension over death
Mild tension prevailed at Suryanagar in Nacharam on Sunday when locals staged rasta roko holding municipal officials responsible for the death of a labourer, Balaraju (18). The victim reportedly developed complications after inhaling poisonous gases during removal of garbage near his house on Friday and died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the OGH. The locals charged that four others -- Swetha (6), Reveathi (11), Sai Krishna (4) and Venkataiah (31) -- also fell sick as a result of foul smell that emanated during garbage clearance. The residents were furious when the Kapra Municipal Chairman, G. Ramchander Goud, and the Commissioner, Ravi Kiran, tried to pacify them. They alleged that the negligence of official machinery led to Balaraju's death. Despite repeated requests for the early removal of the garbage officials failed to take action, they said.
