Rain claims four in lives in Haryana

CHANDIGARH JULY 13. Most of the northern region received fresh spell of rains early today causing mercury to drop sharply and claiming lives of four in two separate incidents in Haryana.

A woman and her two children were killed when the roof of their room collapsed in a brick klin at Shahzadpur village in Sonepat district of Haryana last night, reports reaching here said.

Noor Nisha (26) and her children Irshad (9) and Heena, all hailing from Bhagpat in U.P. were employed in the brick klin.

In another rain-related mishap, a 17-year-old girl was killed and four others sustained injuries when a wall of a house collapsed due to heavy rain in village Chhan in Haryana's Hisar district yesterday, the police said.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh and its adjoining areas including Mohali and Panchkula had received 8 mm of rain until this morning, according to the Meteorological Centre here.

Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Kurukshetra and Sonipat also reported heavy showers.

Ludhiana received a heavy rainfall at 66.2 mm, Patiala had 1.2 mm of rain while Ropar and Jalandhar also reported some light showers.

Most parts of Himachal were lashed by rains. Shimla (40.7 m m), Dharamsala (125.4 mm), Bhuntar (4.4 mm), Sundernagar (12.8 mm) Kahu (52.8 mm), Rampur (18 mm) and Kasoli (18.8 mm) were among the stations to receive rains.

Jammu was also lashed by heavy rains at 34.6 mm.

The Met Centre has forecast rain or thundershowers at many places in the region over the next two days. — PTI
