Bangalore July 13. The Chairman of the Kisan and Farm Workers' Department of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), Balram Jakhar, has said that the people should teach a lesson to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the next parliamentary and Assembly elections for neglecting the farmers and the agricultural sector.

Addressing Congress workers at the KPCC office here, Dr. Jakhar, a former Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Union Agriculture Minister, said that the party should wage a struggle against the "anti-farmer" policies of the Union Government.

He blamed the policies of the NDA Government for the distress among farmers and the reports of suicides by them.

The Union Government had failed to ensure minimum support price for farm produce, he charged.

Dr. Jakhar said that instead of tackling the problems of farmers, workers, and the weaker sections, the BJP was pursuing its communal agenda.

The President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), B.Janardhana Poojary, presided over the meeting, which was attended by the Chairman of the KPCC Kisan Cell, Malikayya Guttedar, MLA, and the Minister of State for Information Technology and Tourism, D.B.Inamdar. Earlier in the day, Dr. Jakhar called on the Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna.
