Cinema impasse: Meet put off

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore July 13. The expectation that cinemas in the State will be reopened has been dashed with the Government putting off the scheduled meeting on Monday between the Minister for Information, Allum Veerabhadrappa, and representatives of the film industry. The exhibitors (managements of cinemas) have stopped screening films protesting against the directive from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to share their collection of service tax with the film producers. Mr. Veerabhadrappa was scheduled to meet the exhibitors, distributors, producers, and leaders of the film chamber of commerce. An official press release said that the date of the meeting would be announced shortly.
