Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement here, he said the State Government's action against its employees and teachers symbolised a ``dark chapter'' in the history of Tamil Nadu and democracy, and that administrative norms had been buried.
CPI (M) condemns BJP stand
Meanwhile, the CPI (M) criticised the State BJP president, C. P. Radhakrishnan, for accusing communists of having instigated the employees. In a statement here, the State secretary, N. Varadarajan, said they had launched a strike not for new benefits, but only for restoration of the pension benefits withdrawn by the Government. When a Madras High Court judge directed the employees to call off the strike, the unions immediately agreed. But the Government went in appeal against his direction that all arrested and dismissed employees and teachers be released and reinstated. While all political parties condemned the ``stubborn attitude'' of the Government, the BJP leader, without any concern for 13 lakh staff members and their families, was trying to please the ruling party and blame the communists for the strike. The BJP's ``anti-people attitude''was condemnable, said Mr. Varadarajan.
