By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD July 7. The Sanjiva Reddy Nagar police have created a record of sorts, nabbing five criminals, said to be involved in separate cases, dating from the year 2001. Property worth Rs. 7.5 lakhs in the form of jewellery, autorickshaws and two-wheelers have been recovered.

According to a press release, the events started with the arrest of Dommata Ramprasad (25), already convicted in a dozen burglaries in SR Nagar police limits on July 5. He was caught as he was moving near Vikaspuri crossroads with two gold chains he had just stolen.

Interrogations revealed his involvement in five burglaries and a theft in the same police station limits, all committed since his release from jail in November 2002. His arrest led to the recovery of jewellery and two scooters worth Rs. 3.8 lakhs from his house and from the possession of receivers at Malkajgiri and Lallaguda. He was remanded to judicial custody.

The very next day, a scooter-lifter, Naveen (24), of Jagadgirigutta was arrested and three scooters worth Rs. 60,000 were recovered. Naveen, who was remanded, was said to be involved in a two-wheeler theft in Musheerabad police station limits.

On July 7, two members of what was described by the police as an `active dacoit gang', Shaik Basheer (22) and Rahmatullah (20) of Sanatnagar were nabbed. A sum of Rs. 65,000 and two scooters worth Rs. 40,000 were recovered and the duo were remanded.

The same day, an autorickshaw-lifter, Suresh (19), allegedly responsible for the theft of three such vehicles was arrested and two stolen vehicles worth Rs. 2 lakhs were recovered. The Assistant Commissioner-Punjagutta, P. Rama Rao said the hunt for more such criminals was on, under the supervision of the DCP, Anjana Sinha.
