Seven-seater mishap toll rises to five

HYDERABAD July 7. The death roll in the tragic case of a seven-seater which got washed away in the Musi from a causeway near Guvvaleti, a hamlet of Chinnaravilala village in Hayatnagar police limits on Sunday, has risen to five.

It may be recalled that the seven-seater carrying nine persons and proceeding from Ghatkesar to Pilaipalli village was swept away in the gushing waters while crossing the River Musi.

The locals have fished out five bodies. The deceased have been identified as B. Suvarna (34) and her daughter B. Jyoti (13), from Guvvaleti, D. Yellamma (35) from Peddaguda village, Shaik Afthar (25) from Parripalliguda village and Dasari Sammakka (38) from Pilaipalli village. Four-month old Uttam Kumar, son of Sammakka, is yet to be found, Mr. Devender, Inspector, Hayatnagar, said.

Those who survived the tragedy include Basava Reddy, Dilip Reddy and Manjula. The driver, who is yet to be identified, is said to be absconding.

Two cops suspended

The Sub-Inspector, Ahmed Mustafa Khan, and the constable, M. Manohar Reddy, both working at Malakpet Traffic Police Station were suspended by the City Police Commissioner, M.V. Krishna Rao, after they were found in possession of excess cash during an Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) raid.

A press release said that during the ACB raid on February 26 this year, the said officials were found having excess cash, which was not mentioned in the personal register maintained in the station.

One arrested

Ghouse Ali Khan involved in house-breaking cases was arrested by a West Zone team of the Central Crime Station. On his confession, property worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs in the form of gold jewellery, silver articles and wrist-watches was recovered from his residence.

Two-wheeler lifter held

A history-sheeter of Narayanguda police station, Pathula Yadagiri, a native of Karimnagar district was arrested by the Cyberabad police on Monday at Saroornagar as he was moving about in a stolen two-wheeler.

Interrogation led to Yadagiri confessing to his involvement in 16 offences including six two-wheeler thefts and 10 chain snatchings, a press release said.
