Replying to questions put forth by the Revenue Minister, K.M. Mani, Mr. Thomas said the construction of the laboratory of the Centre for Earth Science Studies, which has been entrusted with the task, was nearing completion. The Legal Metrology Department would conduct regular inspections in all margin-free markets to detect irregularities in weighing machines. The Public Works Minister, M.K. Muneer, said in a written reply that 11 bridges on the National Highway and 11 bridges on other roads were in a dangerous condition. The estimate for reconstructing these bridges had not yet been calculated. The Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, said that a cell would be formed to look into the complaint pertaining to syllabus burden of students in unaided schools. The Non-Resident Keralites Affairs Minister, M.M. Hassan, said the arrears in compensation to the kin of those who had died in foreign countries had not yet been cleared. This amounts to Rs.2.40 crores. As many as 215 applications are pending.
