Two naxals killed in encounter

WARANGAL JULY 7. Two naxalites belonging to the Janashakti (Rajanna) faction were killed in an encounter this morning at the Potlabupathigudem of Kothaguda mandal.

According to the police, the members of the Kunjum Venkaiah squad -- Goparaju Sammaiah and Bupati Laxminarayana -- died in the exchange of fire with the police while eight other members are said to have escaped from the scene. On information that the Janashakti naxals camped near the village to extort money from contractors and traders, the police launched combing operations in the area. A police team spotted a group of naxals. On seeing the police, the extremists opened fire. The exchange of fire continued for more than half an hour. Police recovered two 8 mm rifles, seven kitbags, utensils, water cans and a landmine from the spot.
