Speaking to reporters after visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital here today, the TRS president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said the Government should have come out with a contingency plan taking past experience into consideration. Neither the Minister nor the MLAs of the ruling party visited villages to console bereaved families, but were busy with political speeches at the Janmabhoomi programme. Mr. Rao went round the children's ward and interacted with doctors and hospital authorities and enquired about the incidence of diseases. Referring to the Rajolibanda controversy, the TRS leader accused the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, of instigating Ministers and MLAs of Kurnool district. "How dare farmers and leaders attempt to attack farmers of Mahabubnagar district with axes, stones and bombs. Is it democratic?'' he sought to know. About 80,000 acres should get water from the project, but indeed not even 20,000 acres was being irrigated. The tail end areas were being deprived of water. Following a representation from farmers of Mahabubnagar district, the Government had earlier promised to close the sluice, but went back on its promise. Mr. Rao also blamed the CLP leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for maintaining silence over the issue and accused him of supporting farmers of Rayalaseema for political gain. "He never speaks on the issues of Telangana or problems being faced by the people of this region. He undertakes padayatra only to win votes for his party,'' he alleged. The TRS would continue to agitate until Mahabubnagar district got its due share of water and party leaders and workers were ready to sacrifice their lives for the cause, he added.
