Orissa CPI(M) to observe `Save Nalco Day'

By Our Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR JULY 7. In a bid to register its protest against the disinvestment of the National Aluminium Company (NALCO), the Orissa unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to observe July 18 as `Save NALCO Day''.

The programme will coincide with the protest programme being organised by the various Central trade unions on July 18 to oppose the disinvestment of NALCO at the national level.

Addressing presspersons here today, the secretary of the Orissa State Committee of the CPI(M), Janardan Pati, said the decision to observe the `Save NALCO Day' was taken at the two-day meeting of the party's State Committee which ended here on Sunday.

Mr. Pati said protest dharnas and meetings would be organised outside the NALCO corporate office in Bhubaneswar and the work sites at Damanjodi and Angul on that day to oppose the Centre's move to lay off 30 per cent of its share in NALCO. "We will not allow privatisation of NALCO at any cost,'' he said.
