In a quandary

Sir, — The AIMPLB's rejection of the Acharya's proposal has left us in a quandary. When will both sides come to learn that this attitude will take us nowhere. The parties concerned must come to the table with a fresh mind, ready for a give and take attitude.

Especially when the nation is trying to improve relations with countries such as China and the U.S., it becomes imperative to put our house in order so that we can present ourselves confidently at international fora.

Also, we must not waste time on an issue which is not as important as development and poverty.

Sujeet Kumar Arya,
New Delhi

Sir — This is with reference to the Kanchi Sankaracharya's statement that there is no need for rebuilding the demolished structure in Ayodhya. I think religious leaders should concentrate their energy on the uplift of their community instead of making statements like these. He should use his high position to get banned the militant organisations which are threatening to destroy the secular fabric of the country.

M.F. Siddiq,
Bangalore
