Letters to the Editor
Sir, I am dismayed at the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi's statement that Ayodhya does not need another mosque. The key question is if it needs another temple. He has given an unwelcome dimension to the pristine philosophy of Hinduism. Hinduism is all about tolerance, inclusion, simplicity and humility. I hope we have better spokespersons who would speak positively in the spirit of "vasudeivka kudumbakam".
R. Ramdas,
Sir, The vexed Ayodhya issue is getting more entangled with each passing day. People have been waiting for years with bated breath for a permanent solution to the Ayodhya tangle so that other important issues such as food security, healthcare and linking of rivers could be pursued in earnest. Parliament and legislatures too could set people-oriented agendas instead of being stalled over religious issues. Civil society can find an answer where Governments, politicians, religious leaders, fundamentalists and institutions have failed. Ours is a society of composite culture, and a multi-faith approach to the issue worked out by civil society could be the right solution.
C. John Rose,
Sir, It is sad that the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board has rejected the Acharya's proposals. He should have kept away from political issues as the Government used him as a pawn. I feel the Acharya has only lost his reputation.
G.M.Rama Rao,
