Varsity union to curb campus violence

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM July 4. The Kerala University Union will, in cooperation with various student organisations, draw up plans to eliminate campus violence and strengthen the functioning of student organisations.

This was stated by the union chairman, Ben Darwin, at a press conference held here today to announce the details of the budget and action plan of the union this year.

The chairman unveiled a 29-point action plan that includes a student meet against globalisation, a debate series, campaign against communalism, an international film festival, setting up of a library at the union headquarters and a career guidance programme.

The budget projects an estimated expenditure of Rs. 38 lakhs for the union this year. The highest allocation of Rs. 6 lakhs has been made for the University Youth Festival. A sum of Rs. 2 lakhs has been set apart for the students' parliament and for setting up the union library.
