India `A' beats Nottinghamshire

London July 4 . In a remarkable batting performance India `A' defeated Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge by seven wickets here on the third and final day on Friday. The chief architects were batsmen Rohan Gavaskar and S.S. Parab. These two came together just before lunch after a precarious start.

Earlier in the morning, Notts batted for an hour and took the score to 339 for five.

Afzaal, who was 114 not out overnight took his individual score to 161 not out. G.D. Clough was bowled by Irfan Pathan for 55. In order to get a result Notts forfeited its second innings while India `A ' forfeited its first innings.

India had to score 340 in its second innings in a minimum of 86 overs to win. India `A' lost two quick wickets for only 21. Gavaskar and Parab took the score to 169 before Parab was bowled by B. Vettori.

After Parab's departure, Gavaskar found an able partner in A.T. Rayudu. These two doggedly added 172 for the unbroken fourth wicket to settle the match in their favour.

The scores: Nottinghamshire 339 for five wickets declared (U. Afzaal 161 not out, G.D. Clough 55, D.J. Bicknell 52) and second innings forfeited lost to India `A' first innings forfeited and 341 for three (R.S. Gavaskar 139 not out, S.S. Parab 90, A.T. Rayudu 71 not out).
