Fundamentalist arrested

CHENNAI JULy 4. A fundamentalist, wanted in various cases and stated to be absconding for the past seven years, was nabbed in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Venkatesh alias Musthafa alias Sheikh Dawood alias Rasukutti was wanted in connection with a bomb blast which occurred in the Meenakshi temple in Madurai in 1996. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case in Virudhunagar district. He escaped from custody.

The blast case was handed over to the CBI. Even as the search for the fugitive was continued by the Madurai Special Division, SB CID, the unit received information that he was working in a hotel in New Delhi. A team of intelligence and CBI officials rushed there and made the arrest. He was produced before a Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi, and was being taken to Madurai.
