Five naxals, two others killed

HYDERABAD JULY 4. Five People's War naxals, including a special action team leader, have been shot dead in three different incidents in Adilabad, Guntur and Prakasam districts by special police teams during last 24 hours even as the extremist group shot dead two ruling party leaders in Guntur where they called for a 48-hour bandh commencing Saturday.

Police forces managed to `neutralise' the most dreaded action team in a house in Kannala housing colony in Bellampally town of Adilabad district today evening. The team leader, J. Sridhar, was slain in the fierce gun battle that lasted for over an hour. Two other top naxals were also killed in the incident where the police recovered a carbine and two factory-made small firearms.

Elsewhere, an unidentified woman naxal was killed in a shootout near Palutla village of Prakasam district while another naxal was killed in Repallekunta of Mahadevpur mandal in Karimnagar district.

Meanwhile, the People's war extremists shot dead a Telugu Desam leader, K. Brahma Reddy, and his son, Suman Reddy, in Guntur district.
