Priyanka to fight it out with Mekhala

MUMBAI July 4. Priyanka Yadav, a product of the Indian Squash Professionals (ISP) training programme and ranked fifth in India, pulled off a sensational semifinal upset over experienced second seed Deepali Anvekar on Friday in the Rs. 3.70 lakh Herald Maritime Services All-India Squash Open.

It was the first major final for the Mumbai girl, defeating another ISP trainee over four games 15-9, 5-15, 15-10, 15-12 to set up a title clash with National champion and top seed Mekhala Subedar and a shot at the Rs. 30,000 prize.

The men's final, where the winner will carry home a Rs. 75,000 booty in this ISP conducted event, will see top seed Ritwik Bhattacharya clashing with second seed Sourav Ghoshal, while Delhi's Gaurav Nandrajog will face local boy Sahil Vora in the boys' under-19 decider with Rs. 50,000 prize money at stake in one of the richest prize money events in Indian squash, organised under the aegis of Squash Racquets Association of Maharashtra and Squash Racquets Federation of India.

The results: Men's open (semifinals): 1-Ritwik Bhattacharya (Del) bt 4-Amjad Khan (Dhampur) 15-2, 15-5, 15-2; 2-Sourav Ghoshal (Chennai) bt Karan Bhatty 15-6, 15-5, 15-9.

Quarterfinals: 4-Amjad Khan (Dhm) bt Vishal Kapoor 15-8, 16-17, 15-14, 15-6; Karan Bhatty bt Sachin Jadhav 13-15, 15-12, 15-9, 15-10; 2-Saurav Ghoshal (Chn) bt Rohit Thawani 15-9, 15-7, 15-6; 1-Ritwik Bhattacharya (Del) bt Satyajit Sheshadri (Chn) 15-7, 15-5, 15-1.

Women (semi finals): 1-Mekhala Subedar (Deolali) bt 4-Rachita Vora 15-7, 15-11, 15-8; 3-Priyanka Yadav bt 2-Deepali Anvekar 15-9, 5-15, 15-10, 15-12.

Quarterfinals: 4-Rachita Vora bt Shaila Pandole 15-6, 15-3, 15-7; 3-Priyanka Yadav bt Madhura Paranjpe 15-8, 15-7, 15-5; 2-Deepali Anvekar bt Shivangi Paranjpe 15-2, 15-4, 15-7.

Boys' under-19 (semifinals): 1-Gaurav Nandrajog (Del) bt Vikas Jangra (Jindal) 15-11, 15-10, 15-10; 2-Sahil Vora bt Mihir Sheth 15-10, 15-7, 15-4.
