By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI
JULY 4.
Pravinchandra Gandhi was unanimously elected president and Dhiru Mehta appointed executive secretary and director-general of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here today.
Mr. Gandhi, chairman of the Janmabhoomi group of newspapers and former FICCI president, succeeds R. Venkataraman, former President. Mr. Mehta comes in the place of S. Ramakrishnan, who died last February after serving the Bhavan for over half-a-century.
Mr. Gandhi began his association with the Bhavan in 1962 as its trustee and became its vice- president in 1983. He is one of the main architects of the Bhavan's phenomenal growth.
Mr. Mehta, a director of the Bajaj group companies, joined the Bhavan in 1986 as its honorary director.
He is also the president of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust founded by Mahatma Gandhi.
