YSR demands urgent steps

By Our Special Correspondent

In a press release, Dr. Reddy said more than 5,000 tribals had lost their lives due to viral diseases since 1999 and Visakhapatnam district alone accounted for 200 deaths in the last six months.

The Government spent Rs. 10 crores on hospital buildings in the Agency areas but there were no medicines in these hospitals. A survey conducted by APCC doctors cell revealed that the Government was spending 79 paise on each of the 363 hamlets coming under the jurisdiction of G. Madugula Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Hukumpet mandal of Visakhapatnam district, Dr. Reddy pointed out as a case of gross neglect of health services by the Government.

The CLP leader said the Government was squarely responsible for the rapid spread of viral diseases in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Medak, Warangal, Kurnool, Cuddapah and Visakhapatnam districts besides the State capital. It failed to come out with a comprehensive plan to tackle the alarming situation, he charged.
