Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Editorial "Fixing witnesses"( July 1 ) has focussed on the helplessness of the judiciary to jail `influential' culprits. The acquittal of all the 21 accused in the Best Bakery case in Gujarat exposes a precarious trend in our society. Retraction of the deposition in court by eyewitnesses raises suspicions about intimidation by the accused. It is time to curb this unholy trend and ensure adequate protection to the eyewitnesses.
Lakshmi Sukumar,
* * * Sir, Your Editorial is a clear analysis as to what happened and what could happen in future. The lesson is `kill at will', fix the witnesses through terror and hoodwink justice. This seems to be the trend of the criminals.
Y.S. Kadakshamani,
