Assassins' gang member killed

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD June 30. A member of a gang of hired assassins was killed and three others injured in a clash between two groups after the gang attempted to kill a toddy contractor during a meeting at municipal grounds of Rayadurgam in Ranga Reddy district.

The deceased was yet to be identified. While the injured toddy contractor, Shankar Goud, and his son, Eshwar Goud, were admitted in a private hospital, their rival, Sunil, who masterminded the attack, was taken to the Osmania General Hospital.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that three brothers - Sunil, Ravi and Anil, all from Nanakramguda, conspired to eliminate Shankar Goud, the prime accused in the murder of their brother, Praveen Kumar Goud. The trio hired a gang of killers from Nandyal of Kurnool district to murder Shankar Goud who was charged with killing Praveen at Shaikpet in October last. Shankar and his accomplices were arrested in connection with the murder and later released on bail.

On Monday morning, the trio and the hired killers went to Shankar's residence in Khajiguda in a jeep. They drove to the municipal ground of Rayadurgam on learning that Shankar was attending a meeting of the local toddy co-operative society.

A clash ensued between the attackers and those attending the meeting when the former attacked Shankar and others with knives and rods. Shankar, Eshwar and Sunil sustained injuries.
