Highway robbery: Four more arrested

BANGALORE June 30. The Nelamangala police have arrested four more dacoits involved in the recent highway robbery at Madanayakanahalli village in Nelamangala taluk of Bangalore Rural District.

Those arrested are Bhaskar of Yelahanka, Manjunath (25) of Magadi Road, and Sendil Kumar (22) and Vadiraj (22) of Nelamangala. Police have recovered Rs. 5.5 lakh in cash and weapons.

With their arrest, eight members of a 10-member gang involved in the dacoity are in custody. A search has been launched to nab the other two dacoits.

The gang stopped a van in which employees of the State Bank of Mysore were taking Rs. 17 lakh to a branch of the bank, and took away the cash.

Two commit suicide

A man and a woman ended their lives by jumping in front of a train between Hejjala and Bidadi railway stations on the Bangalore-Mysore section. They have not been identified.

Their bodies were found on the railway tracks on Monday morning. While the man died on the spot, the woman died when she was being taken to hospital.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident may have occurred at around 8 a.m. on Monday. Railway police have registered a case.

Youth ends life

A youth committed suicide by hanging himself in a canteen at Peenya, where he was employed, on Sunday night.

Police said that for the past three months, Shivaputtegowda (23) was employed in the canteen of a factory owned by a private company. His colleagues are said to have told police that he had threatened to kill himself if he could not marry a girl he loved in Mandya.

Car stereos seized

A middle-aged native of Tumkur District, who allegedly stole car stereos from vehicles parked outside houses, was nabbed by the City police, and car stereos and other articles worth Rs. 50,000 were recovered from him.

Police say Gopal, a native of Nelahall village, Sira taluk, used to steal stereos from cars. Five stolen car stereos worth Rs. 50,000, six starter sets of vans, three carburettors, and two stolen two-wheelers have been recovered.

Police claim that with Gopal's arrest, seven cases of theft in Vijayanagar police station limits have been solved.

Three youths held

The Kanakapura Rural police have arrested three youths and recovered stolen pumpset parts worth Rs. 5,000 from them.

Those arrested are Nagesh (19) of Gowdahalli, Shivalinga (20), and Puttaswamy (20). Police said the three used to break into pumphouses located in fields, and steal parts of pumpsets.

Fatal accident

Nitesh Chakravarti (40) was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near Hesarghatta on Sunday night. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the accident. Peenya traffic police have registered a case.

Man attacked

Some persons attacked a resident of Chamarajpet on 4th Cross of the locality on Sunday night.

According to police, Baburaj (25), who was in an inebriated condition, was walking on the road when he was assaulted. He was shifted to hospital in a Hoysala vehicle.
