Glacier named after Indian scientist

Chennai JUNE 30. A glacier in the Antarctica 24-km long has been named after an India-born scientist, Sridhar Anandakrishnan, a professor of Geophysics at the Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Anandakrishnan's work on Antarctic Ice Sheets, Ice Stream Migration, Time Series Investigations and Antarctic Tectonics, has won recognition, leading to the decision by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names to christen this part of the Antarctica located near the Ruppert Coast, as Anandakrishnan Glacier.

The scientist who has many publications in scientific journals, including Nature, is the son of M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor of the Anna University and was born in New Delhi.
