Second cut-off list does not offer much hope

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JUNE 30. For those who missed it by a whisker, Delhi University's second cut-off list could well be all about another hit or miss, with the drop announced by most colleges for various courses being just about a per cent or two.

While admission to a number of popular courses like B.Com Hons, B.Com (Pass), Economics (Hons), Maths (Hons), Biochemistry and Chemistry were declared closed by many colleges, the second list does not offer much hope for students who missed the race by a huge margin in the first attempt.

The second list saw admissions to the B.Com Hons and B.Com (Pass) close in Daulat Ram College, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Janki Devi Memorial College, Jesus and Mary College, Kamla Nehru College, Kirori Mal College, Bhagat Singh College, Rajdhani College, Bhagat Singh College, Shyam Lal Anand College and Sri Venkateswara College.

While admissions to Economics (Hon) was closed in Delhi College of Art and Commerce, Hindu College, Kamla Nehru College and Kirori Mal College. The Shree Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) considered the best for commerce courses, has dropped its cut off for B.Com (Hons) from 91.25-95.25 to 90.50 to 94.50, While a seat in the Economics (Hons) section would now requite 90-92 per cent instead of 91.25-93.25 per cent.

English, gaining popularity in the University, is still available in Hans Raj College for 83-85 per cent, at Hindu College for 70.88 per cent and Sri Venkateswara College 79-85 among others. Admission to B.A (Pass) is still available in a majority of colleges, including most North Campus ones.

In the case of Science courses, colleges like Hindu, Hans Raj and Kirori Mal and Sri Venkateshwara have announced closure of admission for subjects like Physics. Admission to Physics will now require 78.66 at Gargi, 75 at Maitreyi, 78 at Ramjas and 69 at Rajdhani and Moti Lal Nehru.

Students will need 76 to get Chemistry (Hons) in Gargi, 80.66 in Hans Raj and 77 in Kirori Mal College, 72 in Maitreyi and 73.33 in Miranda House and 78 in Sri Venkateswara College. Admissions to Botany and Zoology are also available in colleges like Deshbandhu, Gargi, Hans Raj and Hindu.

The drop in the cut-off of most courses, admissions to which are still open have been kept very marginal, to avoid getting more students than colleges have seats for.
