Engineering counselling begins

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI JUNE 30. Counselling for admissions to engineering colleges for 2003-04 began today at the Anna University with a sitting for 214 physically handicapped candidates, who applied for the 1,200 seats under the quota.

Counselling was also held for about 60 candidates under the NRI quota.

Those absent today are expected to join counselling in the general category, which starts on June 3.

P.Narayanasamy, secretary, Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions, said seats in the physically handicapped category were increased to three per cent and counselling for the group was held ahead of the general category.

The first rank holder in the physically handicapped group, T.Anjan, was presented his allotment order by the Vice-Chancellor, E.Balagurusamy. He opted for the Electronics and Communications group, university officials said.

One candidate in the category for daughters or sons of freedom fighters, M.Swarnalatha, was also present.

A university release later said the counselling for B.Arch would be held after sessions for other BE/B.Tech courses were completed. The date would be announced later.

The next phase of counselling will be held on July 1 and 2 for 700 seats in the vocational stream category, for which about 1,300 candidates have applied. Counselling for admissions to the general academic stream will begin on July 3, with six sessions for 1,500 candidates on the first day.
