Pushkaram specials

HYDERABAD June 30. The South Central Railway is making arrangements to transport 2.5 lakh people daily for the `Godavari Pushkarams', from July 31 to August 12, at a cost of Rs. 2 crores, according to the General Manager, T. Stanley Babu.

He told a press conference here on Monday that 25 to 30 passenger/express trains would be added daily in the districts of East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Krishna (Vijayawada). As many as 1,500 railway staff would be deployed during the festival period.

About 60 booking counters would be opened at Rajahmundry, Godavari and Kovur stations. Twenty waiting sheds and 144 toilets would be put up for the benefit of passengers waiting to catch trains. At Rajahmundry station a new booking counter would be opened and the platform extended. This work has alredy begun.

Mr. Stanley Babu stated that the SCR was in touch with the State Government on exchange of information regarding inter-connection of buses and trains. Information for the benefit of pilgrims would be released through electronic media and hoardings/boards.

The SCR would be ready to add more facilities and trains if the situation demands, the Mr. Stanley Babu added.
