SCR to introduce five new trains

HYDERABAD June 30. Five new trains are being introduced on the Vijayawada-Secunderabad-Vijayawada, Secunderabad-Bikaner- Secunderabad, Vijayawada-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Guwahati- Secunderabad and Tirupati-Katpadi-Tirupati (passenger service) routes by the South Central Railway during this financial year.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Monday, T. Stanley Babu, SCR General Manager, stated that the express train to be run between Secunderabad and Vijayawada would be a daily. It would have 15 coaches, 12 second class, two second class luggage-cum-brake and one AC second class chair car.

The weeky express trains, with 18 coaches, between Secunderabad-Bikaner would leave Secunderabad on Tuesday and Bikaner on Friday. The weekly Vijayawada-Mumbai Express (18 coaches), the Secunderabad-Guwahati-Secunderabad Express (17 coaches) would leave for their destinations on Sunday.

The Yeswantpur-Nizamuddin-Yeswantpur tri-weekly would touch Dharmavaram and Secunderabad, while the Chennai-Dehradun-Chennai weekly express would pass through Vijayawada, Warangal, Ramagundam. The Ranchi-Yeswantpur weekly express would touch Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Nellore, Gudur and Renigunta.

The weekly Muzaffarpur-Yeswantpur Express would pass through Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada.

While the Hyderabad-Ernakulam Sabari Express would be extended to Trivandrum on three days a week, the frequency of the Vijayawada-Vasco-Vijayawada Amaravathi Express trains would be increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly. Also, the frequency of the Rajkot-Secunderabad-Rajkot Expresses would be increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly.

Mr. Stanley Babu said five express trains between Nanded-Amritsar (no.2715), Visakhapatnam-Chennai (6006 and 6005), Hyderabad-Narsapur (7056) and Chennai-Kakinada (7243) are being speeded for periods ranging from one hour to ten minutes.

While the railway proposed to develop Chittoor, Cuddapah, Adilabad and Nizamabad as model stations, 11 stations have been identified for providing passenger-friendly facilities for the mentally challenged persons.

The Pakala-Katpadi-Chittoor line would be converted into broad gauge. This work is expected to be ready by the third week of July. Trains running on this route would be hauled by diesel and later electric locos. Following the conversion, Chittoor would come into limelight with trains from Ernakulam and Trivandrum passing through this station.

He stated that the railway's total earnings stood at Rs. 3,720 crores. While 62.29 million tonnes of freight was carried last year, this year it would be 43 million.
