Top stars for National circuit meet

Chennai June 30. Top National athletes like P. Ramachandran, C. Thirugnanadurai, Bhadur Singh, Sakthi Singh, Jagadish Bishnoi, K.M. Binu, P. Anil Kumar, Shivanand, Anil Kumar, Gulab Chand, A. Aravind, H. Jeyachandran, S. Ramachandran, K. Suresh, Jada Shankar, Shankar, Neelam J. Singh, K.M. Beenamol, Jincy Ramachandran, Vinitha Tripathi, Sunitha Rani, Maduri Sexana, N. Latha, C. Latha, Harwant Kaur, Soma Biswas, J.J. Shoba, Geetha, Jetty Joseph, Poonam Thomal and Saraswathi Saha, K.N. Priya and A. Amudha will take part in the National domestic circuit athletics meet, to be hosted by Tamil Nadu at Nagercoil on July 10 and at Chennai on July 19.

Briefing pressmen, Mr. W.I. Davaram, President, Tamil Nadu Amateur Athletics Association, said that the athletes' performance in this meet would be considered for the selection of Indian team for the World championship, to be held in Paris from August 23 to 31, Asian championship, to be held in Manila from September 20 to 23 and the Afro Asian Games in Hyderabad.

There are going to be five circuit meets and the venues are Delhi, Nagercoil, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore and Chennai.

The winners are to get prize money and about 20 Tamil Nadu athletes are also taking part in these two meets, hosted by TNAAA.

"As the Nehra Stadium track is still the fastest one in the country, one can expect some good performances," said Mr. Davaram. As the events are less, the Negercoil leg is to be conducted in the afternoon, but in Chennai, the events are to be organised under the floodlights because of the hot weather, according to him.

A full-fledged dope-testing team is to be at Nagercoil and Chennai and the urine samples of the athletes are to be sent to New Delhi.
