Sub-registrars' offices being computerised

Bangalore June 26. The State Government has commenced computerisation of all 203 sub-registrars' offices, starting with the one in Rajajinagar here. The project will be completed in three months, according to the Minister for Revenue, H.C. Srikantaiah.

He told presspersons here today that the project was being executed by CMS, an organisation of the Union Government, and the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL). The revenue earned from specific services at sub-registrars' offices would be shared equally by the CMS and the State Government for a five-year period, after which the latter would take over the operations and maintenance completely.

Mr. Srikantaiah said that with the implementation of the project, it would take only half an hour to get registered documents from sub-registrars' offices.

The minister said that the Revenue Department had exceeded its revenue target of Rs. 1,050 crore by about Rs. 200 crore.

The Government, in its process of decentralisation, had started appointing special tahsildars for taluks which were reorganised, he said. As of today, 14 special tahsildars had been appointed. There was a plan to increase the number special tahsildars to 25 by the year-end, he added.
