Gambhir guides India `A' to victory

DURHAM JUNE 26. India `A' made a winning start to its tour of England with its victory over British Universities, with seven overs to spare. Gautam Gambhir hit 128 at more than a run a ball to ensure the visitor chased the target of 222.

The scores:

British Universities 221 for nine in 50 overs (R. White 52, J. Francis 40, M. Pettini 34, R. Ferley 35 not out, A. Mishra four for 41, R. Gavaskar two for 31) lost to India `A' 224 for two in 42.2 overs (G. Gambhir 128 not out, R. Gavaskar 41, H. Badani 33 not out).
