In a written reply to the Calicut Airport Committee chairman, in response to the joint petition by the Committee and Malabar Chamber of Commerce demanding the setting up of night landing facilities at the airport, the AAI said that additional obstructions lights and lead lights were expected to be erected by July. The AAI said the above facilities were expected to be commissioned by August while the night operations would commence after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation granted the necessary approval for the same. The AAI said the Karipur Airport already had high intensity runway lights in double circuit, abridged simple approach lighting on both ends, precision approach path indicators (PAPI) on both ends and illuminated windsocks.
