VSNL forms subsidiary in U.S.

MUMBAI JUNE 26. Telecommunications and internet services provider Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) has formed a fully-owned subsidiary in the U.S., VSNL America Inc, to offer Internet Protocol-Virutal Private Network solutions in that country. "The subsidiary, set up in Delaware, would provide IP-VPN solutions to begin with and later offer a host of other services,'' sources close to the development said here today.

VSNL America would help in roping in U.S.-based companies, in turn, garnering higher revenues, they said. The Tata Group company would also invest in setting up points of presence (PoP) in the U.S. and Europe, enabling it to provide connectivity between these nations and the Indian sub-continent, they said. This would be the company's third international venture, the earlier being United Telecom Ltd. (UTL) in Nepal and VSNL Lanka Ltd. in Sri Lanka. UTL, which is expected to be launched shortly, is a joint venture with the Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd., Telecom Consultants India Ltd. and Nepal Ventures Pvt. Ltd. — PTI
