New heart-care facilities at Wockhardt Hospital

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore June 26. Wockhardt Hospital and Heart Institute has spent over Rs. 3.5 crore on expanding its facilities to benefit 10,000 more patients every year.

The expansion includes the latest Siemens Cardiac Cath Lab for carrying out angiography and angioplasty. The lab is equipped with advanced high-precision technology for in-depth diagnostic capabilities.

"The cath lab will enable our cardiologists obtain higher resolution cardiac images with reduced X-ray exposure. This is a key advantage while conducting long-duration angioplasty procedures," says Vishal Bali, Vice-President, Wockhardt Hospital. The cath lab also provides ACOM (angiography communication) Net System to support doctors at remote network hospitals see live heart images of their patient while they are undergoing the procedure at Wockhardt in Bangalore.

Besides the cath lab, Wockhardt has also acquired a suite of Philips echocardiography colour Doppler systems with 3D for increased accuracy in diagnosis of patients with congenital, ischemic, and rheumatic heart diseases. This makes Wockhardt among the few hospitals in the country with this new technology which was only recently launched in the international healthcare market. The intensive coronary care units (ICCU) in the hospital have been equipped with new-generation multi-parameter bedside monitors which support telemedicine. This helps cardiologists and cardiac surgeons monitor their patients from anywhere they may happen to be. "This technological advancement makes it possible to monitor the progress of post-operative heart surgery patients even from their homes," according to the chief cardiovascular surgeon, Vivek Jawali.

Mr. Bali says the acquisition of new technology is part of the vision to provide highest quality treatment at no additional cost to patients.
